Rental car
A car is most useful for independent beach-hopping, the east coast and inland attractions. Barbados drives on the left. Confirm the temporary driving authorization process, insurance, fuel policy and parking at your accommodation.
Public transportation
Government buses, privately operated minibuses and ZR vans form the public network. They can be economical and frequent on major coastal routes, but luggage, late-night schedules and less-central accommodation can reduce convenience.
Taxis and transfers
Prearranged airport transfers are the least stressful arrival option. Taxis also work well for dinners and one-off outings; confirm the fare before departure when no meter is used.

Do you need a rental car?
Not necessarily. If you stay around Rockley, Worthing, St. Lawrence Gap, Holetown or another active coastal area, it is realistic to combine walking, buses and taxis for much of a vacation. A car becomes more valuable when you want to explore several beaches in one day, visit the east coast independently or stay away from the main coastal corridors.
