Getting Around Barbados

Compare rental cars, buses, taxis and private transfers for your Barbados vacation.

Quick answer: A rental car offers the most flexibility, but it is not essential for every trip. Visitors staying in active south- or west-coast areas can combine buses, walking, taxis and organized tours.

Rental car

A car is most useful for independent beach-hopping, the east coast and inland attractions. Barbados drives on the left. Confirm the temporary driving authorization process, insurance, fuel policy and parking at your accommodation.

Public transportation

Government buses, privately operated minibuses and ZR vans form the public network. They can be economical and frequent on major coastal routes, but luggage, late-night schedules and less-central accommodation can reduce convenience.

Taxis and transfers

Prearranged airport transfers are the least stressful arrival option. Taxis also work well for dinners and one-off outings; confirm the fare before departure when no meter is used.

Frequently asked questions

Can I use Uber in Barbados?

Do not assume app-based ride services will work as they do at home; verify current local options before relying on them.

Is driving difficult?

Drivers accustomed to right-side traffic need extra concentration. Roads can be narrow, and navigation should never distract the driver.

Can I see the island by bus?

Major corridors are accessible, but a full sightseeing circuit is simpler with a car, taxi tour or organized excursion.
